Did you know? Director William Friedkin originally wanted hawks flying around the statue of Pazuzu to give the shot a more ominous look. Four trained hawks were brought over from England but would not fly in temperatures over 100 degrees. Friedkin then, thinking it may attract vultures, placed lamb carcasses around the statue - only to spark rumours amongst the natives that a “strange American man has come to Hatra and is offering sacrifices to a demon.”
